Interview With Western Mass News!

Professor Louhghalam and former UMassD student Meshkat Botshekan did an interview with Western Mass News. We talked about “Carbin” what it can do regarding estimating and monitoring road quality and  fuel consumption and environmental impact. For more information click here.

Featured by the New York Times!

Professor Louhghalam along with Prof. Tootkaboni and former UMassD student Meshkat Botshekan have been featured in a story by The New York Times. The story describes the technology and the app “Carbin” based on the idea of citizen-enabled crowed-sourcing  for measuring and monitoring road quality and its associated fuel consumption and GHG emission. Reseach Grant from National Science Foundation

Prof. Louhghalam and Prof. Tootkaboni received a 3-year $224,000 award from National Science Foundation to develop a data-centric framework for resilience analytics of critical infrastructure under extreme climate events. This grant will support research on the theory and practice of resilience engineering via establishing an uncertainty-informed framework to characterize resilience of power systems subject to stochastic hazards such as hurricanes.

Engineering exploration day

Prof. Louhghalam designed a workshop in an event organized by Society of Women Engineers (SWE) to introduce middle-school and high-schoolers to civil engineering. Special thanks to volunteers: Seyed Ardalan Nejat, Meshkat Botshekan, and Leili Javidannia for their help in organizing the sessions.

STEM4GIRLS Workshop

Prof. Louhghalam organized a workshop for the STEM4GIRLS on UMass Dartmouth campus where middle school students were introduced to the designing and building of bridges. Special thanks to Taylor Johansen for helping with the workshop.

Research published in Nature Communications

Prof. Louhghalam in collaboration with researchers from Institute for NanoBio Technology at the Johns Hopkins University and School of Converging Science and Technology at Korea University, has studied the impact of spatial structure of the actin cap on protecting the cell nucleus from extracellular physical disturbances. The study which was recently published in Nature Communications combines experimental results and computational simulation to explain the behavior of cells under mechanical stimuli according to the load-carrying mechanism.
